REGATTA REQUIREMENTS

Procedure for attending 12 paddler regattas

Rationale: To ensure Taranaki Dragons are fully informed and meet minimum requirements when registering for and attending regattas. When travelling to regattas ideally paddlers will participate in all/most races.

Minimum number of paddlers is 12 paddlers plus drummer. Generally these are social regattas.

Procedure:

  • Taranaki Dragons may assist with entry fee when entering as a team.
  • Registration closure dates need to be adhered to.
  • When paddlers make a commitment to attend a regatta, it is expected that they will attend.
  • If a paddler withdraws, she/he may be liable for costs incurred (eg. accommodation).
  • If there are sufficient numbers, TD could send more than one team.
  • 2 Options are available with preference for option 1, then 2
    • Option 1:
We enter 12 person regatta as Taranaki Dragons with our own full team being (a minimum of 13 paddlers/drummer).
This would mean that everyone would participate in every race.
For regattas of 3 races/final the maximum number will be 14 (paddlers/drummer).
For regattas of 4 (or more) races/final the maximum number will be 15 (paddlers/drummer).
    • Option 2:
We enter 12 person regatta as Taranaki Dragons and have a large majority of our own (minimum of 9) paddlers/drummer then approach another team  for a small number of paddlers.
For regattas of 3 races/final the maximum number of paddlers/drummer will be 14.
For regattas of 4 (or more) races/final the maximum number is 15 (paddlers/drummer).
If paddlers from another team  attend to boost numbers, they will be informed that a contribution to TD regatta costs is encouraged.

Procedure for attending 20 paddler Regattas

Rationale: To ensure that Taranaki Dragons are fully informed and meet minimum requirements when registering for and attending regattas. When travelling to 20 paddler regattas ideally paddlers will participate in all/most races. These are run under NZDBA rules.

NZDBA: Auckland Regionals and National minimum and maximum numbers allowed:

  • Minimum number of paddlers allowed is 16 paddlers plus drummer (17).
  • Maximum number of paddlers allowed is 20 paddlers plus drummer (21).
  • Maximum number per team in total is 25 Any other 20 paddler regatta refer to host ruling.

Procedure:

  • Taranaki Dragons may assist with entry fee if they receive external funding when entering as a team.
  • Members are responsible for the cost of accomodation.
  • Registration closure dates need to be adhered to.
  • When paddlers make a commitment to attend a regatta, it is expected that they will attend.
  • If a paddler withdraws, she/he may be liable for costs incurred (eg. accommodation).
  • Three options are available with preference for option 1, then 2, then 3:
    • Option 1:
We enter 20 paddler regattas/Regionals as Taranaki Dragons with our own full team.
Ideally the minimum number is 21 paddlers/drummer.
If necessary, a minimum of 19 paddlers/drummer is permitted. This would mean that everyone would participate in every race.
This would make us eligible to attend Nationals as our own team.
It is possible there may be TD people who have not attend regionals but want to attend Nationals.
In this instance priority will be given to those who had attended Regionals.
    • The decision is made by the Coach.
    • Option 2:
We enter 20 paddler regattas/Regionals Taranaki Dragons and have a large majority (minimum of 15 of our own paddlers/drummer) then ask another team for a minimum of four paddlers (19), maximum of six paddlers (21).
We could still qualify to enter Nationals as our own team.
We may or may not need another team’s paddlers to boost our numbers for Nationals.
